Maker Ed: The Trojan Horse for SEL
Limited Capacity seats available

Maker education is the Trojan horse for Social Emotional Learning. Why does the act of building and creating have such a profound impact on children? It is its innate ability to teach the five tenets of social emotional learning, self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making, in a highly engaging way. Most educators attending the conference are already developing these skills in their students and may not even be aware of it. This presentation will point out to educators what they are already doing with K-8 grade spans and how they can expand on it. Additionally these tips will help educators explain the value of their program to administrators, parents and community members. Demonstrating how maker education can accomplish other school goals is valuable to anyone seeking to make their program sustainable.
